DAY 4 ON THE 13/05/09
Yesterday was my forth day at the Hospital. I gave the children the option to work with shadow or lip sink and they choose lip sink. There was a very large group of children 8 in total and so both the teachers and three of the parents got involved. One boy who arrived first and who I had showed to make one before the others arrived proceeded to make two more puppets on his own using the same technique while I worked with the others. They all made lovely puppets. Some of the children needed a lot of attention so it was great to have all the help.
A lot of the children had to leave after they had made their puppets. We proceeded to the filming where an older boy of 14 started filming but then got called away. Also the 2 x 4 year olds who where very lively with the puppets had to leave, making the group from 8 to 1. We started filming and I felt that he wasn’t sure about being the only one left to film. we went live link up with Helene, only the sound was working but he really got into it and we unfortunately got cut off. But it really got him talking and we filmed some more with the puppets and then took some pictures moving the puppets to make a small animation.
In the afternoon I worked with a boy I work with every week we spent most of the time watching last weeks DVD, talking about sports and he drew a backdrop for a wrestling match that we will finish next week.
I then went to the Play room where I worked with a group of 5 some of which didn’t get to finish but two girls made princesses and a boy made Tigger from Winnie the Pooh. The play specialist joined in and we sang and danced the puppets. At this point there was only one girl left and I felt she was tired and was happy to watch us jump around with the puppets.
With regards a lot of play with the puppets this week it didn’t emerge so much, except for with the 2 x4 year olds who had to leave early. I really felt the children this week where tired and enjoyed the making process the most. There was some lovely puppets created.
I wasn’t feeling well and I didn’t want this to affect this week as the children we are working with aren’t feeling well and get on with it. On reflection I feel that I need to have a lot of energy to get the children excited about performing and I did not have this, this week, I do feel they enjoyed it and it is great to see when children become more excited and what triggers this. I felt the live link up achieved this, this week, so when its working properly it will be great to see the reaction.
I find that every week has been so different fuelled by the different types of children and group dynamics. I’m looking forward to seeing what next week holds.
