Day 1 - Setting up
This residency began with a series of phone conversations between myself and Justine Foster, Education and Community Programme Coordinator at West Cork Arts Centre. During these chats we formed the shape and intention of the residency before it began, yet left it wide open for development in the moment. This was a great way to start; to find a common intention and then to tease out structure and then leave breathing space for what would happen. On day one I took ownership of the third room in the Gallery and created a makeshift `studio-like` space in which to greet the schools groups and hold the workshops. I made one wall into a `thinking wall` which displayed sketches, notes, photographs, prints, actual finished work etc which spanned three different residencies. I also had compiled a digital presentation which would enhance this display and delve into the work in more detail. The day was spent creating this space, meeting with and chatting to the Arts Centre Staff and taking in the two rooms of the Gallery which housed the work of the schools group - the link which had brought me there and on which we would base the week`s interactions.
