First Day drawings at Rathcabbin school..
It was a great experience being back in Rathcabbin school yesterday - the children were so receptive and responsive to new ideas for the next eight weeks. We started off as usual with a big circle and lots of stretching and warm up excersises. We then sat and they showed me some of the creative projects that they had been working on in the interim with Mr. Kennedy. Some great building, making and painting had taken place.
The idea for the practical project yesterday was to explore the idea of self and other using portraiture. I bought in a selection of mirrors and we began by really examining our own features, shape of face, eye colour and so on. We talked about the different shapes of face... heart, oval, square and round. They went on to make some fabulous drawings using the mirrors.
After lunch we went out into the yard and they sat in pairs on the grass and in the trees, they then spent time sketching each other.
there was plenty of journal writing to catch up with and we re-evaluated last term in terms of what had worked and hadn`t worked.
The idea that we are working on at the moment is to create storyboards based on the research we gathered last term. After that we will work on a shadow puppetry show, which will involve performance, story writing, animation, drawing and making. We plan to video these pieces when they are finished.
Great to be back.
