Kings Island and the Island Field

Kings Island is the old medieval part of Limerick and the administrative heart of the city. 

Today the Island is viewed in two parts, the monumental part including St John`s Castle and the City Hall and the other part known as The Island Field. The Island Field includes Limerick`s first local authority housing estate, St. Mary`s Park.  Families from `The Lanes` in Limerick`s city centre were relocated here (in the 1930s?). Today this area is designated for demolition and replacement by new housing under the Limerick Regeneration Plan.
