Week 6, Someone bigger.
It was a small group for this last session, a good number were missing from toddler group because of bugs. Following the ideas from the story ’Someone Bigger’, we talked about windy skies, made watery paintings we hung up to dry on a washing line with pegs and got Mum’s and Dad’s to draw around us on big sheets of paper on the floor to see how big we were. These big body shape sheets were fun to decorate with pastels and stencils and sticking paper etc. This last activity is a nice one for parents to share with their kids. They are needed for drawing around the body and get involved then in all the materials to decorate the shapes.
It felt a shame to be leaving the group after so few weeks. It felt like the parents and kids had just started on a journey with me and then it was time to go. I hope it has inspired some of the parents for new kinds of play at home. I was also sorry that the person running the toddler sessions was not present for any of the workshops, ( I worked in a different room). Many of the ideas are so simple. It’s a shame no one was there picking up ideas that would develop the work at the centre now that an interest has been established.
