Week 3, Warm and bright yellow. Queens and Kings.
Description
This was the third week exploring a different primary colour based on the story about the queen of colour. Having investigated calm and gentle blue (week 1), dangerous and fiery red (week 2) and warm and bright yellow, we discovered that we were all now queens and kings of colour so we made crowns. They used soft pastels and card stencils I had made with simple shapes in. Kids three and up love working with the stencils. Mum or Dad is needed to hold the stencil still. They fill the space with colour and smudge it with fingers. When they lift the stencil off they are delighted to discover a shape. It’s as if by magic. Younger children are happier working freely with the pastels and find the stencils disrupts the flow of work that they need. Simple hats, masks, wings or crowns work well as something to do at the end of a workshop. Many kids this age love the idea that they can transform themselves wearing a hat or a mask. It’s a lot of fun for parents too interacting with the kids in the role play that results.
