Welfare of young people during the National Youth Theatre

Welfare

NYT is a residential project and NAYD is responsible for the welfare of all participating young people. NAYD employs welfare staff to work with the young people throughout the project.

The Day Welfare Officer observes how the young people are working and getting on together during the day and is a constant presence in the rehearsal room. This role also involves organising lunch, keeping an eye on energy / tiredness levels and being a good listener if any of the young people need to talk about something.

NAYD employs 2 Night Welfare Officers to work with the young people in the evenings and supervise the young people during the night. Again, this role involves keeping an eye on how the young people are getting on, individually and also as a group. The Evening Welfare Officers arrange dinner, they organise social activities for the group in the evening, host daily welfare meetings with the young people and supervise the accommodation area at night.

The welfare staff are key to the success of the NYT project and to the wellbeing of the young people during this very exciting but intense summer project. All NYT staff follow the NAYD Welfare and Child Protection policy.
