Day 6 puppet portal hospital b
Today on our journey around the world we went to India, we visited the taj ma hal, saw lots of animals such as elephants,monkeys and a scary snake.
There was a group of boys aging from 6 to 12. We looked at pics from indianculture,puppets and animals and we made puppets in a similar style rod puppets, we made the puppets out of paper,maskin tape, bamboo and cable ties. The boys came in and out at different stages so they where all at different stages of making but as they finished they started on the back drop they really got into it and where telling stories as they drew, i was at the puppet table but there where lots of giggles coming fron there as im afraid to report one of the wonders of the world went up in flames, i asked them to draw some buckets of water to put out the flames but to no avail.one boy came in with one of the play specialists teddys she makes for the kids ,he wanted to use it as his puppet so he made it a suit and tie and played with in the show.
They all ended up on the backdrop as me and mary continued under their instruction to finish the puppets cloths.After wards we set up the backdrop and started to play the boys all took turns filming and taking pics. A lovely boy i worked with before came in last minute and the boys who where filming gave him their puppet to play with. As you may amagine there was alot of puppets banging together as the puppet fights began(in a playfull way), luckily only one injury as a puppet losts his legs but i brought him to the puppet hospital where maskin tape was applied to the wound and back out he went. They where a fun bunch.
one of the boys that had to leave during the morning making session came back while we where playing so he used the head of his puppet and the other boys teddy(as he was filming). He came back after lunch and we finished it off.
Then i went back to see are budding puppeteer she will be in the hospital for a while. We made an indian princess. and then using the two marrionettes she made last week she made up a story that using the three puppets we acted out on her bed. she called it indiaenders(a play on eastenders). an indian princess comes in search of her mom in ireland. her mom has other children and dosent want anything to do with her, but her half sister is appauled by her mothers racist behavour and leaves with her sister to go back to india to live with her adopted parents. but sisters are princesses. the sister becomes an indian and gets a dot on her forhead as her inisiation. but they decide to fly back to see there mother in ireland(both moms are playey by same puppet)they end up taking over the castle (the backdrop from last week) the mom becomes a servent, who has to eat slop, gets 50 cent a week and a bus pass to get grocerys. she uses the bus to escape,they catch her but end up banishing her.she has given me permission if i would like to make this in to a puppet show :)
I then went and worked with a very tired boy we made a puppet, and i must say his mom was the one who enjoyed playing with jim afterwards.
During the summer i gave the play specialists wool i wouldnt use that she had admired in my bag of tricks. today she supprised me with a lovely wooly pressie.
