DLR Artist Regional Group - Third Meeting - 19th June

In attendance: Caroline Lynch, Liz McMahon, Claire Halpin, Julie Merriman

A small group, but somehow we managed to run over time!  The conversations were very interesting.  We started from where we left off at the previous meeting, by continuing with artists talking about their experiences of working with Creative Classrooms 2010.  I began by talking about the work I had done and then Caroline and Liz gave their accounts.

One of the things that came up in our discussions was the importance to the children of how the teachers looked at and responded to their work, of the value they put on it.  We felt that this might be something we and Liz in particular in her workshops with the teachers, could expand on and discuss next year.

Another thing that came up for discussion was the reasons why an artist might introduce the children to the work of another artist during a workshop, either on video or photograph; was it to validate the work the children were doing, or was it for inspiration or to kick start ideas and should it be done at the begining, middle or end of a session.

Materials were briefly discussed which gave rise to a general anti-glitter moment!

There was discussion about whether it would be helpful to have these kinds of talks whilst the Creative Classroom residencies were on-going, say during week 6 or 7, as a way of re-charging or re-evaluating.
