The ’Practice’ Exhibition Tour launches in West Cork Arts Centre next week, on Saturday 18th January. Here is an introduction to the seven exhibiting artists whose work forms part of this exciting programme:
Helen Barry
Helen Barry is a visual artist who engages in a collaborative practice with early years children. Helen’s work is an investigative journey through the iconic architecture of secular and non-secular buildings and spaces, that draw on the individual need for reflection, stillness and a sense of community. Her most recent exploration is ’Seilmide’ (Snail) is a two part project, designed for early years audiences, specifically created for them through a collaborative process with them and is supported by DCC Arts office and axis:Ballymun. Helen’s practice is also supported by the Arts Council, Young People Children And The Arts Bursary Award (2013).

Ann Donnelly
Ann Donnelly is a Northern Irish artist working mainly with video and photography. Often, her images and films respond to a sense of place, exploring the relationship between individual and environment. Through both solo and engaged practice, she continues to explore themes of being and belonging and her work has been exhibited internationally.
Naomi Draper
Naomi Draper graduated from NCAD with a Bachelor of Design specialising in glass in 2007. Following an Erasmus programme at the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design, Prague, she received a scholarship to attend the Pilchuck Glass School, Seattle. In 2011, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma Community Arts Education at NCAD. From her studio base at The Dock Arts Centre, Carrick on Shannon, Naomi has participated on a number of residency programmes within a community and educational context. She is currently Artist in Residence at two public crèches commissioned by Fingal County Council Arts Office, and the Artist In Schools Programme with Leitrim County Council.
Ann Henderson
Ann Henderson is an artist whose practice is built upon relentless investigation into natural processes. The work she is presenting within the Practice exhibition, Goings-On, provides a window into an area of this activity which took place in partnership with pupils and teachers from Ballydown Primary School. As part of Goings-On, she will be continuing investigations within the studio on Rathlin Island. This will be conducted live through remote communications in each exhibition venue. Maree Hensey
Maree Hensey is one of Ireland’s leading visual artists. Her practice encompasses drawing, sculpture and participatory art projects. She was born in Dublin in 1962. She studied at Galashiels College of Textiles, Scotland, graduating in 1991. She has successfully completed several Site Specific Installations, Artist in Residence programmes and Community Based Participatory Art projects
Fiona Kelleher
Fiona is a singer, early years music artist, and composer for Early Years. She works regularly with very young children and considers these children to be very important collaborators in her work as a creator of music for Early Years. Fiona’s work as an early years musician includes a wide variety of artistic experiences and projects. She has worked as musician/performer and composer with Graffiti Theatre Company from 2010 to the present on various projects including Blatha Bana, a theatre piece designed for an early years audience.
Christine Mackey
Christine Mackey graduated with a practice-based PhD at the University of Ulster, Belfast (2012). Her practice combines site-specific and public interventions, residencies, pedagogical programmes, exhibitions, and art-books. . She works on a free-lance basis with the Community and Educational department at the Irish Museum of Modern Art to develop a range of educational booklets STRANDS in response to their exhibition programmes. Current work is supported by the Arts Council Visual Bursary Award (2013).
