Indecon, a private economic assessment firm, have completed and compiled an Update Report for the Arts Council of Ireland assesssing the economic impact of the arts in Ireland.
This report details the economic effect in Ireland of both direct and indirect impacts of the arts, as well as the wider arts sector.
The findings show that Arts Council recipients contributed €41.1 million in tax revenue in 2010, as well as a strong €135.1m turnover in the same period.
The report has also shown that over 1,700 jobs exist in direct arts employment in the country, and also that 400 jobs have been lost within the sector since 2008. See the table below for employment information.
This report preceeds next month’s budget, where there are threats of further cuts to the arts.
