"Networking is a good idea; it helps prevent a sense of isolation and brings credibility to the work of working with children through art." Artist/Participant
Artists Tunde Toth of Kozo Studio and Gallery and the Butler Gallery and Andy Parsons of Wolf on Arm Studios and the Young Model Programme, both shared insight into their work on recent projects. Both artists, fitting to the current economic climate, are using natural and often found materials and have established non-commercial, low cost spaces in which to work, hold workshops and show work to public audiences. The artists led the participants in two varied and exploratory workshops in silk papermaking and in mixed-media collage.
"It was really great to have this workshop in Roscommon. It is necessary to meet and exchange ideas and discuss problems with working artists and facilitators." Artist/Participant
During the day participants had time to delve into various aspects of their practice and tease out solutions to difficulties, processes and communication methods through sharing their individual experiences in small groups.
Heather James led an afternoon training session on small-pieces approach to promoting your work online, sharing skills in using Twitter, Facebook and other networking tools and giving guidelines on how to use these spaces for promotion.
Feeback from the participants on the day was very positive and we have taken on board some new ideas for the upcoming sessions in Belfast, Galway and Dublin.
