Butler Gallery - Artist in Primary School residency - Education and Outreach programme

Project Outline
The project for the Lisnafunction National School (County Kilkenny) was carried out over 5 weeks. On request of the teacher, we focused on making a collaborative work with all the children in the senior classes. This is a small, two classroom school. We used the school’s environment as the insoiration and focal point, linking the colour design to that of the gallery’s exhibition, The Breadwinner. We also decided to use fabrics as the main material so that both the students and the teachers could learn new skills which included stitching and knitting. The over end tapestry ended up measuring 120 cms x 240 cms.
As part of the project the students made a short film which explained how they progressed to the end result.
