Duration: 2013-09-17 to 2014-02-17
Project Outline
This was a 50 hour Artist in Schools Residency with Rookey NS. For the first three weeks I worked with junior -2nd class then for eight weeks with 3-6th class. We bagan by making shapes with our bodies and seeing how we could recreate these shapes with big gestural mark making on large collaborative charcoal drawings. This led to looking at what and how we can express with shape and also with line, texture, written word, and colour. The kids created a huge amount of drawings and paintings and then came up with a variety ofideas for using them to create different installations. These included candle lit boxes created using charcoal drawings with poem about feeling inserted. This installation was called ’Boxed Up’. They also created kinetic scultures and a floor maze from some of the colour work. I loved their ideas for the installations and I really enjoyed working with colour with the kids. They created beautiful paintings often with incredible attention to detail and with varieties of textures and layres of colour.
