  • Warp & Weft - Clan Cloth

Project Outline

Festival of the Fires 2012. An interactive, participatory installation was built with the participation of the festival go-ers  - the community of Festival of Fires. The piece drew on ancient Irish traditions of weaving and craft as well as taking themes of oneness and interconnectivity from the Festival ethos itself. The idea for the piece came from the terms ‘warp’ and ‘weft’ - the warp being the structure, or idea of a community and the weft are the people that make it up. We asked for messages on strips of fabric provided, relating to the festival go-ers own idea of the ‘ideal’ community, or simply a message of  choice. Together we  wove  pieces of fabric into the walls of the tent to create a clan cloth.
In this way, we will create an interwoven piece that merges all of our ideas and thoughts to create one whole entity. We are essentially constructing a ‘fabric of society’.
