Oiche na nDeich Seol is an daras na Gaeltachta Public Art / Percent for Art Commission devised and managed by the artist Ceara Conway. It is also funded by the Galway County Council.
Context:
My intention was to work with a group of young adults from Tir an Fhia to work with them in hosting their own festival for their community. All elements of the festival were based on their experiences and perspectives of living in Tir an Fhia.
The project took into account their response to local history, new and old stories, and the element of being able to make changes in their own environment.
This was done through the mediums of cartoon animations, letter writing),printed media on , t-shirts, badges, posters, which were sold on the night of the festival.
The children are also learnt how to facepaint and face painted adults and children on the night.
All works were sold on the night of the festival and it is the children who worked at the stalls as part of a core crew.( with support from a team) .
The artists who were invited to work on this project were, Peter Casby,Tommy Casby and Sharon Lynch. There was a core group of 15 children working on creating this festival and throughout the summer of 2010.
What was amazing about this project for me , wasthat not only did the children have an amazing festival but local musicians took part, the youugest performer we had was a 8 year old dancer with not a bit of shyness of him!
Parents became involved and brough food for the volunteers on the night.
Local fishermen and boaters became involved sailing their boats and allowing us to project the childrens cartoons on the sails of their boats.
Artist Rosin Coyle had her worked projected alongside the childrens as they held their own selection panel to choose mkore animations to be shown on the night.

Spectacle:
As a special performance piece the animations that were made by the children were projected onto the sails of ten boats docked at Glas na nUan pier.
The children who worked on` Oiche na Deich Sheolta extended invitations to various groups to be a part of their Festival.
They invited the following
An Siopa Bui ( art supplies and toys) , Local musicians, Tigh Ruairi ( local sweet shop), A Spraoi stall, clay workshops and John Baba Jeaic, a local historian whose vast heritage collection was one of the main inspirations for the project ( we took the children on various tours at the begining of the project to get them thinking )
All in all , for me it was one of the best projects I have everdone,
