Promoting your work on Practice.ie

Documenting your work does take time, but it can have some great outcomes. Writing about your work and documenting the process provides a much needed "space for reflection" as Helen O'Donoghue said at the Practice Journal Launch. Additionally, if you share this information publicly, you let others know about your work. When it comes time to communicate the outcomes, you have this information ready at hand.

In an interview, Thomas O'Connor talks about how he started to document his residency in detail, and had some amazing findings to share..

"Normally that sort of stuff is lost. All the work that happens in communities is never documented properly... All you're ever left with is hearsay. That's not enough if you're looking to get funding."

Document your own work through Practice.ie

We want to help artists communicate what is they do, and how they do it.

1. Register and create a profile

In your profile, talk about your background and list the organisations you work with. Use your real name for your user name. Generally this is how people will search for you online.

2. Link to your own website

Make sure you link to your own site in your profile so people can find out more. Copy the address from the browser, starting from http://

3. Add your projects to the Project Directory

Include a general summary, and make sure to add the names of any other artists working on the same project. They might have profiles on Practice.ie already. If they don't, encourage them to join.

4. Add images, video links or blog posts to your project

Once you have a project, you can start writing about it, putting up images and adding video. More tips on adding video.

5. Use other platforms to connect and promote yourself.

Don't be shy. The more and more people use platforms like Facebook, the easier it can be to organise and share information.
